"I worked with Ms. Kay when I received a referral of a 10 year old child who had recently immigrated to Canada and had difficulties with school work. She was a teacher in his school. When these children are immigrants, there is the added complexity of English being a second language and also parents not being familiar with how to navigate the school system. Ms. Kay understood these issues and accordingly extended her support to them. She constantly communicated with me, and the parents to make sure he received the necessary assessments by school in order to plan his learning strategy. She did so with a lot of compassion and respect for the family. She went over and above her call of duty to help this family. I highly recommend her services to parents seeking help with navigating the school system. "

"I've had the privilege of participating in a weekly group session with Barb for a total of 24 weeks, where she mentors, supports, counsels and coaches parents with children who struggle with ADHD and other learning disabilities. Her helpful insights and resourcefulness gleaned from both her own personal experience and her long career as a teacher and educator, lends her much credibility and provides a very real face behind all the theories and textbooks. She is always responsive to the questions and issues raised. Her talks and lecturettes are infused with warmth and professionalism, and weighty issues are often lightened by Barb's support and encouragement. Parents leave feeling hopeful and encouraged, and most importantly, more mindful, aware and ready to advocate on behalf of our precious children. "

"I had the absolute pleasure of working with Barb as a Special Education Resource teacher for three years. Ms. Kay was my colleague, my go-to person, and my mentor. I always felt confident that she would be able to guide me in the most effective way, directing me towards the right resources, and putting me in touch with the appropriate agencies. She was also the biggest advocate for not only our students with special needs, but also for their families and the teachers who supported them. She was never afraid to speak up for our kids and always showed tremendous love, support, and care for them every single day."
Kat S., Special Education Teacher
"Working with Barb was a beneficial experience both for my students and for myself. She was acutely aware of student needs and how to best meet their needs. She helped me develop a differentiated approach to instruction and assessment that helped me to better meet the needs of all of my students. Barb advocated on behalf of many students and their parents so that all students in my class had an equitable opportunity for success."
Trevor K., Classroom Teacher (Elementary)
"I worked with Barb Kay for 7 years and had many opportunities to watch her work with and advocate for students. For testing purposes, Barb maintained a quiet and comfortable atmosphere and encouraged students to do their best and to feel successful during the process. She is able to discuss testing results with parents and suggest next steps and ways to support children as demonstrated by the results of the testing. Barb is a strong advocate for the children she works with and is very knowledgeable about what students need and how they should be supported in the classroom, and at home. Barb Kay's familiarity with the Ministry of Education guidelines around Special Education and the York Region District School Board's mandates and services regarding Special Education allows her to make suggestions and advocate for the best possible programming for the students she supports."
Curtis Boldt, Classroom Teacher and Special Education Resource (Elementary)

"Barbara is a very knowledgeable, professional, personable and understanding Educational Consultant. She helped me advocate for my son by attending a school meeting with me. It felt really good to have her support, not only for the meeting but before and after as well. She did a great deal of preparation for the meeting and came organized and full of resources for both me and the school. I will definitely reach out to her again. I would highly recommend her services, whether it be for a short-term issue or for ongoing help."
